Views of Jesus

There is no single answer to the question asked. One could give a statistical answer as the result of a survey, but that would have to be geographically qualified. The typical opinion of Jesus held by someone in the southern United States (the so-called Bible Belt) would probably differ from that of a New Englander. Few Americans would have an opinion on the question regarding Jesus being identical to God, or any view about the mystery of the trinity. Among the Americans who have a view about Jesus (or Joshua ben Joseph, as he would have been known in his day) some might associate the man with the notion of loving one’s neighbor as oneself. Jesus’ doctrine of loving one’s enemy and turning the other cheek might be mentioned. The practicing Christian links Jesus with a doctrine of salvation, but I doubt most Americans have a view on that issue.
