Universal Liberty

From a philosophical perspective, every human being is equal with regard to their rights and liberties. From this point of view, if any individual has the liberty to freely pick his or her own spouse, then every individual has that freedom. This universal freedom does not come with the restriction that males are only allowed to love females, or vice versa. Marriage as an institution varies amazingly from one society to another. Here, one cannot legally marry without a license. According to the recent Supreme Court decision, gay couples have a constitutional right to such licenses. In the United States there is a wide range of views on homosexuality. I think people’s attitudes are a matter of whom they know. Anyone who has gays as colleagues or friends tends to be accepting of their lifestyle. My view is that if I were an ordained cleric, I would perform such marriages.
